Police Behaviour
Thai police are usually professional, respectful and courteous. This is
linked to the Thai way of settling disputes peacefully and mutually
honorably. The police personnel are told to be extra careful while
dealing with the foreigners. Most policemen are mindful of these
directions when they have to talk to the foreigners. They are polite and
try to reach to the root of the problems.
Efficiency
Generally the Thai police do not abuse their policy. When anything
occurs, the policemen, most of the time, are quick to respond. Although
there are some occasional 'snatch and run' and pick-pocketing cases,
these should be treated as aberration and not a rule. Most policemen are
careful about their duty although there are some bad cops too as
everywhere.
Tourist Police
Thai Government has brought up an exclusive branch of the police force
for tourists called Tourist Police. However, the tourist police are
available Sathorn-Silom and central Sukhumvit areas. Their helpline
number is 1155. Elsewhere, you can approach general police for help, on
emergency numbers 191 or 123.
